SHARP
(Scottish Heart and Arterial Disease Risk Prevention) is a registered Scottish
charity founded in 1988 by a group of doctors and nurses to tackle the problem
of premature illness and death due to cardiovascular disease.
SHARP
exists not only to heighten awareness that over half of all deaths in Scotland
are due to cardiovascular disease but also that many of these deaths are not only
premature but also avoidable.
The
efforts and resources of SHARP are directed towards both educatiion and research.
Research
is being carried out into the causes of cardiovascular disease to make it easier
to prevent these conditions.
Educational
facilities of a very high quality are provided for health professionals to assist
doctors and nurses identify those at risk and help them reduce their risk of developing
these diseases.
