Risk Factors - Alcohol

Drinking small amounts of alcohol, especially wine, several times a week is not necessarily bad - unless you have drunk to excess in the past.

"BUT remember that alcohol is rich in calories"

Recommended upper limits of weekly consumption:-

Men21 units per week
Women14 units per week
(Women's toleration of alcohol is less than that of men as their livers are mor sensitive to alcohol)
What is a unit of alcohol?
1 Tot of spirit or
1 Standard glass of wine or
Hlaf a pint of lager

If the weekly allowance of alcohol is consumed in one or two days, this can be described as binge drinking and is dangerous. It is safer to drink a small quantity on several days in the week than a large quantity all at once.
